Art Honor Society Paints Downtown Pink

Throughout the entire month of October, Downtown Bel Air has been participating in Painting the Town Pink, an effort to bring awareness and support to cancer care. In an effort to Paint the Town Pink, the community asked people to donate a dollar or more at local shops around Bel Air.  According to Downtown Bel Air, “the Bel Air Downtown Alliance and The Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation (UCH) have partnered this October in support of National Cancer Awareness Month and in celebration of the opening of the new Kaufman Cancer Center on the campus of Upper Chesapeake Medical Center (UCMC).”

The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) of Bel Air High School was involved in helping businesses Paint the Town Pink.  They were contacted by the Bel Air Business Alliance to assist in Paint the Town Pink. Some businesses had ideas about their buildings and some let the NAHS go to work with their own idea, but they all supported painting the town pink.

Mrs. Ballard feels that, “it’s one of the most important causes that my students and I can rally around, and I can get my students involved in the community and make them aware.” When all the buildings were painted using temper paint, Mrs. Ballard said, “it was a beautiful day, the NAHS had a blast, and the businesses loved it.

A Survivor’s walk was held at Armory Park and everyone was invited to vote on their favorite Paint the Town Pink Window Displays. According to Downtown Bel Air “The community will also be selling PINK Cups – sponsored by The Spenceola Group – for $5.00 at Tea by Two, Looney’s Pub, MaGerk’s Pub & Grill, and the NEW Main Street Oyster House (opening October 12.)”
