Rain Falls on Homecoming Parade

Due to recent events, the annual Homecoming Parade for the 2014-2014 school year has been canceled.

The cancellation of the parade was caused by delay in planning and organizing, failure to gain permission to close Main Street, the street that parade usually occupies, and a lack of communication between the local authorities and the planners of the parade. In its place, a giveaway will be provided by the Boosters.

To ensure that the town doesn’t go another year without a parade, a committee will be formed next year to ensure better organization and planning. The town is also planning to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Bel Air next year, so it is sure to be an event to remember.

Robert H. Wehland, president of the Bel Air High School Sports Boosters, says, “A large celebration for the 200th anniversary of Bel Air is being planned for next year and Bel Air High School will be participating with full support from the school administration and the boosters.”

Although disappointment is expected, Mr. Wehland believes that next year’s celebration will make up for the cancelled parade.

“I believe the community along with the students and faculty of Bel Air High School will be excited about the celebration next year,” Wehland said.

Bel Air Bobcats can still show their school spirit without a parade; the Homecoming Pep Rally will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17. Also, show your Bobcat pride by attending the Homecoming Game on Thursday night.
