FACT: Shoes help prevent the spread of parasitic diseases that plague over 1.4 billion people worldwide, and they are a basic human necessity.

Soles4Souls is a charity that collects shoes and distributes them to people in need. When a tsunami hit Southeast Asia in 2004, Wayne Elsey felt like he needed to help out the people that lived there. While watching TV he saw a picture of a single shoe washed up on the beach. He called several footwear companies and persuaded them to donate a quarter of a million pairs of shoes. A couple months later when Katrina hit, Wayne called the same people and sent over a million pairs of shoes to the gulf coast. A year later he created an organization called Soles4Souls. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has delivered over 16 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes. The shoes have been distributed to people in over 127 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States.

 Bel Air High School is participating in this event. We will be collecting any type and size shoes until January 31st. The bins are located in the girls and boys locker rooms. We only ask that each shoe has a match!
