SGA Looks To Unite the School’s Voice

On Tuesday the 15th of November the S.G.A held a general assembly in the black box theater with the homeroom representatives to discuss things that have been done in the school and events that are occurring now. Also an invitation was extended to all groups and organizations in the school to attend this meeting. From now on these organizations of the school will be known as the cabinet and hopefully will be able to travel with the S.G.A to other schools in the state of Maryland for other monthly meetings. A representative was chosen to come and speak on behalf of each organization.

Christina McIntyre, President of the S.G.A, started off the meeting by introducing the student officers and senators. Once they and the representatives were accounted for, the purpose of this meeting was established. The government and cabinet will be combined for the general assembly which will take place after school in the auditorium. The main goal is to make a connection between the students and the only way to do this is to be informed. “By doing this we really want to promote school unity,” Christina McIntyre says. She hopes that by involving organizations and groups students can support each other in the many projects that take place here at Bel Air High School.

One other thing that this change hopes to accomplish is to spread the information around the school. By having the homeroom representatives and organizations in the same meeting, the representatives can speak to their homerooms about upcoming events making communication easier and more effective ultimately bettering the school.

As each representative stood up, they spoke briefly of their group, saying what they have done in the past, what that group is currently taking part in, and what the student body can do to help this group achieve. Mr. Roth stated in the meeting, “It’s amazing to see all these clubs come together for a day.” He found it so wonderful have all these different groups in one room and hear the many great things they do. The S.G.A wants everyone to be involved and to accomplish this; the meetings are now open to the entire school. Anyone can be a part of this and help in any way they can. The next meeting will be held on Monday, December 19, from 2:15 to 3:00.
