Choosing to go out to the movie theater instead of staying home could be very beneficial. We all know that staying home is easier and more comfortable, but you just can’t get that movie theater feel unless you go to one. You could go out to see a movie with friends on a Friday night or meet up with people on the weekends. I believe that going to the movies is a great way to bond with the people around you in a way that isn’t stressful, yet super enjoyable.

Personally, I have fallen into the lazy habit of sitting on my couch and waiting for the new movies to appear on Netflix. I want to go out to the Horizon Cinema in Fallston and watch a movie with my family. There’s nothing like going to the movies and ordering popcorn. Even though it’s easy to wait at home and watch movies, it’s still good to get out of the house and do something. Watching a movie uninterrupted allows you to be more fully transported into its world. That’s what movies are all about, escaping from reality for two hours. It only makes sense to give yourself the freedom of forgetting about all the other stuff for a while. You’ve earned it.

Going out and experiencing a movie is also very educational. Movies are a great resource for visual learners because they enable them to understand concepts without the barriers that hinder learning. Just like books, movies allow students insight into the lives of different characters, how their perspective differs and how they handle certain situations. I asked a fellow classmate whether she prefers to go out or stay home to see a movie, and she disagreed with my opinion: “I prefer Netflix because it’s more fun and you can stop and move around without missing anything,” she quipped. “It’s also cheaper and easier to find what you want to watch.”

While some may disagree, getting out to a movie may be the change of scenery you need. Check out any of our local spots, which includes Horizon, AMC Churchville Theaters and even Regal Cinema in Abingdon.
