On My Block is a new Netflix original series that was released on March 16th, 2018 and has gained a lot of popularity in the past month.

The show is about four friends going into their first year of high school with all of the new experiences it brings. It is set in a predominantly Hispanic and black neighborhood in South Central Los Angeles.

It stars some experienced actors such as Ronni Hawk from Disney’s ‘Stuck In the Middle,’ Jason Genao from ‘Logan,’ and Jessica Garcia from Disney’s ‘Liv and Maddie.’ It also introduces new actors to the screen as well like Brett Gray, Diego Tinoco, and Sierra Capri.

“I love On My Block because it shows the hardships of each character while still all being connected to each other, there are many different subplots but they all come together at one point. Also the character arcs are really satisfying,” says Paige Nixson a student at Bel Air High School.

Many people love the show because of its humor and realness of what it is like to actually be in high school nowadays. The accurate representation of Hispanic and black communities that people tend to overlook is being widely applauded as well.

“The show did many people justice who are in poverty, who are in gangs, and who are just oppressed and general and gave them a voice that they didn’t have before and that’s why I love it so much,” says Kamea Wilson a student at Aberdeen High School.
