Pop Choir’s New Arrivals

Earlier this year in May, the names of the 2016-2017 Bel Air High School Pop Choir were released. New members, who had auditioned and were accepted into the pool of talented and passionate vocalists, bubbled over with excitement as they were inducted into the club.

Pop Choir, a music group branching off of the larger choir, “Counterpoints”, is a program offered to certain 10th-12th grade students at the school. The group mainly sings Jazz and Acapella songs.

“To be able to join Pop Choir, you have to be a member of Counterpoints and you have to audition in front of Ms. Mathews and the current members of Pop Choir.” Morgan Nikol, a member herself, explains.

Since the group is much smaller than Counterpoints and the music selection is more contemporary, Pop Choir is able to take more gigs; most of the performances taking place outside of school.

“We perform at our seasonal concerts as well as nursing homes, assisted living homes, and Harford County events,” Morgan adds, “We usually perform after school or on weekends, and typically have more gigs towards the end of the school year. We also get a lot of performance opportunities around the winter holidays.”

Of the many things Bel Air High School is known for, talent and creativity is definitely one of them.  Pop Choir not only allows students to sing their hearts out and follow their passion, but to create friends and memories that will stay with them forever.
