Bel Air High School hosted their ninth annual theatre festival, NETFest, on Feb. 12 and 13, the second weekend of the month. This was a two day event to celebrate the performing arts and help students improve their craft.

NETFest has been a yearly tradition at Bel Air High School. 2016 marks the festival’s ninth year. This event brings in many students whose real passion is art; drama, to be more specific. The purpose of this event is to help students improve and grow in their abilities.

“We hold it every year around February and it takes place over 2 days, Friday and Saturday,” said Sky Keiser of the Bel Air Drama Company.

The North East Theater Festival is open to those who are a part of their school’s drama company. This year, around 300 kids from 13 different schools came to participate in NETFest. While there, they have the opportunity to take part in theatre activities, adjudications, workshops, and even college visits.

“My experience this year was great! It was my last NETFest and I think we went out with a bang. I met a lot of my friends from different schools and also met new friends,” Keiser exclaimed.

Highly respected directors, theatre people, and choir directors help bring this festival to life. Their purpose is to help teach students all about the theatre experience. The Bel Air Drama Company is to thank, and let’s not forget the parents of these students too. They are in charge and operate the program.

As the two days came to a close, students walked away with theatre experience that will greatly benefit them in the future, and had a chance to connect with kids who also shared the same passion. The Bel Air Drama Company encourages all to join, and highly recommends students interested in theatre and the performing arts to participate in the activities NETFest has to offers. Here’s to nine great years, and many more to come!
