BADC Fall Season Wraps Up

The Bel Air Drama Company has wrapped up their fall season with alternating productions of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town and Caroline Francke’s Father of the Bride. Our Town was shown on Nov. 12, 14, and 20. Father of the Bride was shown on Nov. 13, 19, and 21. All showings were held at 7 p.m.

Both plays proved to be a great success. “We sold over 1,000 tickets over six nights, which is high for a fall season, even with two shows,” explained House Manager Morgan Nikol.

Both shows were centered around marriage, but Our Town tells the story of an entire lifetime, where the “absolutely hilarious” Father of the Bride does not. Described by Nikol as “a show within a show,” Our Town also did not make any uses of props, and all sounds were live action.

Our Town is a poignant play because it talks about taking advantage of every single moment of life, which applies to the characters of the show at the turn of the century, and to people today,” says Kiley Ernest. “I had the privilege of playing Emily Webb, who the audience gets to see grow up and fall in love with George [Gibbs]. She gets married and has a child, but dies tragically at the end of the show.”

After the sixth and final night of the season, the BADC met up in the cafeteria for their closing reception. Along with thanking the student directors and parents for their help throughout the season, Morgan Nikol was selected as the fall MVP.

“Being selected was such an honor. I was up against five other nominees and I really, honestly, did not think I would be MVP,” says Nikol. “I am completely shocked that I was chosen.”

The BADC would like to thank anybody and everybody who came to support them and see either of the two shows this season. Details on the Spring 2016 season are still in the works, so be on the lookout if you are interested in joining, or just want to see what these talented Bobcats have in store for us next.
