Bel Air Music Department’s Fall Concert

On Thursday, Oct. 22, the Bel Air Music Department held its annual fall concert, showcasing the musical talents of the students in the Orchestra, Band, Chorus, and Guitar Ensemble Programs at Bel Air High School.

The auditorium was packed with supportive students, parents, and faculty. The women’s choir, men’s choir, and Counterpoints also filled the auditorium, as they sang in the aisles to create a surround sound experience for the audience for the Counterpoint’s set, accompanied by a student pianist. Counterpoints performed the classic “Sweeney Todd” and a unique selection choice of a song entirely in Spanish. The other choirs, Women’s, Men’s, and Bobcat, performed one song a piece, and all were directed by Mrs. Mathews.

Taking a similar approach, the marching band closed the show by surrounding the audience and playing their homecoming set for the first time, as it was raining during the football game played against Fredrick Douglass a few weeks prior. They played with the same intensity as if they were in the Bobcat Stadium, led by their drum major, Sera Knott. BAHS’ Freshman Band, opening the night of music, played 2 pieces led by their new director, Mr. Young.

Mr. Young expressed his pride of the bands’ performances Thursday Night:  “[The marching band] did a great job and I can’t wait for the next concert.”

The string instruments came out with a full sound, with a guitar ensemble and the BAHS Orchestra playing 3 songs each, led by Mr. O’Neill. All of the music that was played showed the hard work that each musician put into the art, and had one of the biggest turnouts in the fall concerts history.

The students were content with their performances as well. Senior Allison Pullen, a violinist, said, “Everyone played well and sounded good, you could tell even through watching them on screen in the Black Box theatre,”

The concert went superb, and the music department now shifts its focus towards future performances, and their All County competitions this upcoming winter.
