On Wednesday, April 22, 2015, the last Poetry Slam and Open Mic of the school year was held in the Black Box Theater.

The evening started off with host Olivia Streett. The open mic portion of the night started when Streett sang Free Bird with Lauren Fisher on keyboard, and Carolyn Todd on violin. There were other musical acts, including an A Capella cover done by Megan Burton. The band, Cold Side of The Pillow did a compilation of the Shrek soundtrack. Chris Lovorich, The Average, a band comprised of Hector Belarimo and Andrew Kowlewski, and the band Canvas performed original songs. After The Average performed, Miguel Cruz showed of his electric guitar skills. Nathan Alexander told a story about an event in the school. After Alexander, Quinn Baumeister and Alex Perry did a cover of their favorite poems. Ben Rynes and Mr. Dominico played a jazz song for the final part of the Open Mic section of the night.

The special part of the evening was a guest appearance from a teacher band High Street Avengers comprised of, Mr. Doyle on lead guitar, Mr. Shuler on bass, Mr. McIntyre on drums, and Mr. Schoppert on guitar/lead vocals. High Street Avengers played numerous songs and dazzled the crowd with how much talent the teachers of BAHS have.

“I had no idea our teachers were that talented and cool!” said Hector Belarimo.

After the Open Mic and the special guest performance, the slam portion of the night begun. The slammers included Brogan Gerhart, August Napolitano, and Carrie George. After two rounds of poetry, the winner of the night was Carrie George.

“All of the slammers did an amazing job, I loved their poems!” said Chloe Foster.

The Poetry Slam was another success thanks to all who participated and for the High Street Avengers coming out to perform songs for their students.
