On Thu., April 10, 2014, the Bel Air Drama Company will be presenting their spring musical, Sunset Boulevard. Tickets are available for preorder.

Sunset Boulevard is a musical that was adapted for stage in 1991 from the classic movie directed by Billy Wilder. It is about a struggling actress, Norma Desmond, living in her old mansion on a street in Los Angeles called Sunset Boulevard, who had faded away with the silent movies she starred in. Joseph Gillis, a young screenwriter, meets Norma, a pure coincidence and to Joe’s surprise, Norma falls in love with him.

Many wonder how the spring production at Bel Air High School is established. The complicated process has been released. Mrs. Matthews, the music director of the Bel Air Drama Company, explained the decision is discussed between all three directors of the show. The final choice is based off of the members of the current drama company and who they believe will be able to adapt to the story in the best way possible.

“This show was actually Mr. Bowden’s choice, but we always look at who we have in our drama company and try to pick out what show is going to be the best for our students.” Mrs. Matthews explained.

The character Joe is played by senior Caleb Graham, alongside junior Katie Allison as Norma. Molly Valentine stars as Betty Schaefer, a determined young writer who pursues Joe to assist her in rewriting one of Joe’s old screenplays. The extravagant show is being directed by Mr. Bowden and Mr. Smith.

Graham stated, “There’s always a certain level of pressure whenever you get a role in a show, but it’s a good pressure. It pushes you to try your best and do a great job.”

After Thu., April 10, 2014, Sunset Boulevard will be performed every night at 7 P.M. until Saturday, April 12, 2014, where it will be the last performance. Tickets can be ordered online at seatyourself.biz. Tickets for the show can be found by searching “Sunset Boulevard” in the browser.
