Drama Students ‘NET’ Trophies at Theater Festival

This year marks the seventh year of NET Fest, the North Eastern Theatre Festival.

Most people don’t know what NET Fest is or what it is about. NET Fest is a North Eastern Theatre Festival that Bel Air High School hosts every year. It is a festival for students that are part of drama programs at different schools to come together and share their common bond of theatre. This year, NET Fest was rescheduled because of the snow and some schools did not get to attend as planned.

Attendees of NET Fest are assigned workshops dealing with various theatre elements. Some examples of the elements include scenic design, costumes, audition dos and don’ts, etc. Students also signed up for adjudications. Adjudications are for people who want perform a vocal, dance or monologue and can win a trophy for their performance. Some won trophies for portfolios such as those on hair and makeup, stage management, original screen plays to name a few.

Most schools who attend perform on the main stage for everyone in the auditorium. Some can accept trophies for their acting. M.J. Krchnavy was pleased to say, “I really enjoyed the main stages this year! One of my favorites was the play La Plata High School did. [It was] so emotional”.
