On Fri., Feb. 21, 2014, the University of Delaware Wind Ensemble visited Bel Air High School to showcase their instrumental talents.

The concert was held for members of the BAHS Band program in the auditorium. There were about 65 University of Delaware musicians preforming and 100 BAHS Band students attending. The musicians came to show the students what college bands are like and what kind of techniques they will be learning if they choose to go further in their music career.

A select few students were able to join the band on stage. They then played along to the songs that the band was preforming.

“The band was really amazing,” says Sydney Ollinger, a BAHS Band student that attended the concert and got the opportunity to play with the UD Band on stage. “It was very intimidating and scary to play along, but it was also a great experience.”

Many students left the concert feeling inspired to continue their music careers throughout college. In the future, the BAHS Band plans to take a trip to the University of Delaware to showcase the BAHS Band.

“I thought it was really great,” said Mr. Domenico, the director of the Band program at BAHS. “They really showed the kids the intensity of a college band.”
