Winter Concert Series Sets Mood for Holiday

The Bel Air High School Music Program’s Annual Winter Concert series began this year on Dec. 16, 2013 with the Symphonic Band and Jazz Band performing under the direction of Mr. Domenico.

The groups performed a variety of seasonal & standard jazz pieces. Mr. Domenico said “The groups performed well, they have their strong points but there is always room for improvement.”

The auditorium was quite full with around 400-450 people in the audience, one person who attended was Louisa Musser, a sophomore at BAHS who said that, “The music put me in the mood for the holidays. The groups sounded like they spent a lot of time practicing!”

Then on Tue., Dec. 17, 2013, the Bel Air High School Chorus performed their portion of the Winter Concert Series. The Pop Choir, Men’s and Women’s Choir and Counterpoints performed a selection of songs under the direction of Ms. Mathews.

The concert started with an interruption from the Pop Choir, shocking the crowd. The Men’s Choir was ready on stage when the Pop Choir burst through the doors and then performed their pieces. The Men’s Choir then performed followed by the Women’s Choir.

The night ended with a performance from Counterpoints. For their last song all members of the choir program came back out to the stage. Ms. Mathews then invited any alumni in the audience to come up and join them for the final performance.

On Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013 the Bel Air High School Orchestra performed their portion of the Winter Concert Series along with the Guitar Ensemble under the direction of Mr. O’Neill. The Guitar Ensemble started the night followed by the Orchestra.

BAHS’s Music Department will also be holding another concert series in May. Make sure you attend so you can hear what the buzz about Bel Air’s Music Department is all about!
