Students Express Themselves at Poetry Slam

The creative minds of Bel Air High School came together on Dec. 4, 2013 to participate in the Poetry Slam. The Poetry Slam is an event that is held every two months in which students can come together and show their creativity to other students.

Senior Jash Shah hosted the slam. He said, “I like seeing all the creative people and all the creative things that Bel Air has to offer.” Overall Shah feels that the Poetry Slam is always fun. Shah took over hosting the Slam when last year’s hostess graduated. Shah felt that, “it would be a lot of fun, and I was right.”

There are two sections of the Poetry Slam. The first section is the Open Mic, in which anyone is welcome to come up to the microphone and perform. The other is the Slam itself, where participants bring two poems with them and compete with each other for first place. The judges for the Slam are chosen from among the crowd. The participants cannot use any props, their poems both must be under three minutes in length and each poem must be of the poets own construction.

The next poetry slam is Jan. 29. It is open for anyone to participate. Come out and express yourself!
