Boys Lacrosse Team Falls to Liberty Lions

On Wednesday, May 5, the Bel Air Boys’ Lacrosse team hosted the Liberty Lions for the last game of the regular season. The Bobcats fell behind and lost, 10-4.

It was a hard-fought, gritty defensive game with both offenses holding long possessions. At the end of the 1st quarter, The Bobcats found themselves down 1-0. It was a lackluster offensive performance for Bel Air, as they only contributed 4 goals which is their season low. The score could’ve been a lot worse if it weren’t for the shut-down defense they played. Lead by senior Tommy Symalla and Juniors Ben Keesey and Josh Carlon, The Bobcats were able to slow the high-powered Lion offense for the majority of the game. It was a late push by Liberty in the 4th quarter to put the ‘Cats away, when they scored half of their goals off of bad penalties and extra man opportunities.

Junior Ben Keesey is confident in the play of his defense heading into the playoffs. “We have played significantly better defensively, we held our own for most of the game.”

The play on the offensive side of the field was atrocious. They were able to effectively pass the ball around, but they fired too many missed shots. They were too confident in their shooting ability and fired shots from far distances. They weren’t able to convert good passes to goals, as only 1 goal out of the 4 were assisted.

Bel Air feels as if they are better than their record portrays. “We know what we need to work on and fix, and I think we are a little underrated coming into the playoffs.” Continued Keesey.

Bel Air is confident in their ability to succeed in the playoffs. They had a very tough schedule this season, and have played teams that are expected to go far in the tournament, including Hereford, Churchill, Towson, and Fallston. They may see some of those teams again in the postseason and hope there is a different result.

The Bobcats’ regular season comes to a close with this loss, finishing with an 8-6 record. The season isn’t over yet, however, as the playoffs will begin in the next week. The Bobcats have yet to find out who their next opponent will be.
