From Oct. 4, 2015 through to Nov.1, 2015 the Liriodendron Gallery will be displaying Jonathan West’s “Heavenly Waters” to promote the artwork of a local artist.

Johnathan West is an expressionist artist who grew up near the Liriodendron and lives in Bel Air. His work includes collections such as Paintings of Heaven, Time to Run like Hell, The Baltimore Block, New York Paintings, and Dessert Storm. The “Heavenly Water” Exhibit displays his memories about the Liriodendron and surrounding woodland area.

The Liriodendron Mansion was the created in 1897 by WyIMG_1369att and Noltings as a summer home for Dr. Howard A Kelly, a physician for John Hopkins Hospital in 1849. In 1980 the home was bought by the county and restored. It opened to the public as a part of Harford County’s historical attractions in September 1981.

Jonathan West stated, “Art is an integral part of life. Art makes the world a better place to live. It enhances the human experience by enriching the senses.”

The gallery displayed artwork such The Road to Joy, Sanctuary, Liriodendron, Presence, Heavenly Waters, Lemon Butterflies, and Lime Light which used bright colors to display the serenity and happiness that Johnathan West feels when near the Liriodendron.

Dan Coates, attendee at the event, stated, “I think it’s very colorful. I go to all the shows here, and I think it fits in with all the other exhibits. I think it’s good that the Liriodendron has this kind of expressionistic artwork.”

The Liriodendron Mansion not only helps to increase local residents’ knowledge about the historical aspects of Maryland, but also allows visitors to promote culture within the community through various exhibits displaying different artists’ works. It is open from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays with other events such as “Off the Path” by Debbi Granruth premiering on Nov. 8, and Prehistoric Culture of the Northern Chesapeake showing throughout the year.
