Foreign Language Club Takes France

Join the Foreign Language Club on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, for food, games, and cultural activities as they present the country of France!

French students in all grade levels may find this beneficial to immerse themselves with the culture of France and present their knowledge of the French language to other students. Non-French students may also come and participate in the activities the club has to offer.

“At our meetings, we always try to include interactive activities for the countries we’re learning about. This week we’re giving our club members a chance to make their own French foods! We’re going to have a DIY crêpe bar with a variety of ingredients that people can choose from. Foreign Language Club has always been a fun environment for people to wind down after the school day and enjoy new foods with friends.” Donna Nguyen, the president of the Foreign Language Club, states. “But other than food, we get a chance to really learn about the culture behind some countries with our PowerPoint presentations and music selections. I’m really looking forward to the turnout for our first meeting!”

The French are huge fans of sports such as soccer (football), rugby, and cycling. One French game that is rarely played in the United States is Pétanque. Pétanque is an outdoor game where the players toss hollow steel balls as close as possible towards a smaller white ball.

Food such as crêpes, madeleines, and éclairs will be served during the meeting. Any student allergic to eggs, chocolate, and/or any fruits should tell the Foreign Language Club officers before eating any of the listed snacks.

“One way to learn about a group of people’s culture is through the foods they eat. That’s why we’re serving popular traditional French food during our meeting,” says Erika Gonzales, the secretary of the Foreign Language Club.

Please come and open your mind to a new culture! On se verra là-bas!
