Earth Day Beyond Elementary School

Earth Day Beyond Elementary School

Konnor-Ashley Randlett

It all started in elementary school with drawing trees and the Earth surrounded by animals with a sign saying ‘Earth Day.’ But what really is this day all about?

April 22 is “the anniversary of what many would consider to birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. In 1970 earth Day channeled the energy of the anti-war protest movement and put environmental concerns front and center.” Every year on April 22nd, events are held that show support for environmental protection. As well as raise awareness for various causes which help protect the environment all year round.

Although Earth Day is officially celebrated on April 22, it is extraordinarily important to make sure that each and every day everyone is doing something to better the Earth. If we don’t leave a positive mark on the earth, there will be no Earth to leave any type of mark on.

Reducing your plastic use, reusing things, and recycling paper and plastic when you’re done with it are simple ways to help make the environment better. Not only that, but there are countless other ways to help the environment like walking and biking instead of driving a car.

Like many things in life, making the environment better is a chain reaction. When seeing someone pick up trash off of the ground or recycling, you become more inclined to do the same. Helping the world seems like a large impossible task, but it can be accomplished through little tasks.

As you go through each day, try to do at least three things to help the environment. Your world will thank you.
