The Art of Refreshing: Winter Days in Harford County

Konnor-Ashley Randlett

We have only had eleven days of school since Winter Break, and we have already had two days off and two two-hour delays. This looks likes it may be a promising winter for the students in Harford County.

Whenever there is a chance of snow, rain, or simply very cold temperatures, students get excited at the possibility of being off or having a delay. As soon as schools or a delay is posted, we know. This is all thanks to various sources.  Students check twitter, hcps.org, and local news stations until they are updated saying that we will not be going in at normal time, or at all.

Although it is lovely that we have such access and knowing so soon, there is a down side. Many students constantly refresh hcps.org to find the dreaded message, “All students operating on normal posted schedule,” then reason that it will change by the morning, but when students awake at 6:00, the message hasn’t changed.

According to Harford County Public School Student, Anna Wojciechowski, “I always check hcps.org. It is the most reliable site and when I think we may go in late or be off, I constantly refresh it. I even have it bookmarked on my phone so it is always easy to access.”

With two days off and two two-hour delays under our belt this early in January, there is no way to tell what the rest of the winter will bring. So keep refreshing hcps.org, Bobcats!
