What To Do Over the (Much Needed) Winter Break

Winter break, a time of rest and relaxation. There are many different ways that the students at BAHS spend their break, from going on fancy vacations to locking themselves in their bedrooms for a Netflix marathon. The possibilities are endless.

For some people, winter break is a perfect opportunity to watch movies, bake cookies, spend time with your family and enjoy a break from waking up at 6:00 a.m. every morning. On the other hand, others enjoy vacationing to exotic places in a warmer climate.

For students who enjoy the winter months, winter break is a perfect time to hit the ski and snowboard slopes. Ski and snowboard trips, even if they are relatively local, are a good way to spend quality time with your friends or family. Popular local ski and snowboard slopes consist of Liberty, Whitetail, and Roundtop. If you are an intense skier or snowboarder, you may vacation to Vermont, West Virginia, or Colorado.

Although many people enjoy cold weather, there are many people that do not. For those students, winter break is their excuse to stay inside with their blankets, hot cocoa and a collection of Christmas movies. Some of these students retreat to areas with warmer weather, such as Florida, the Bahamas, or an exotic island.

While students look forward to break, their lives the week prior consists of cramming for last minute tests and projects to bring their grades up for the quickly approaching end of the second quarter. But the work does not stop there. Many students are given assignments to complete over the break. As typical, a majority of these assignments are left until the night before going back to school. This causes students to stress about their incomplete assignment, while they should be relaxing.

Some students also enjoy using winter break to get into the holiday spirit. Last minute Christmas shopping, decorating, cookie baking, singing Christmas carols, ugly sweater parties, and Christmas movie marathons are popular activities that get you into the holiday spirit. Another way to get into the spirit, is to spend time with family. The holidays tend to bring extended family together and is a perfect time for “family bonding”.

Although many students tend to over prioritize their break, remember that this is a time for you to relax and unwind.  Spend time to look at the freshly fallen snow, or to watch your favorite Christmas movie with your family. Above all, remember to appreciate this time of year and enjoy your time off.
