The BAHS Time Zone

Since the first week of school, starting on Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, the school bells of Bel Air High School have been synchronized to the Verizon time on cellphones, rather than the black phone time used before.

For those of you wondering what the black phone time is, it is the time that corresponds with the black telephones in each office in Bel Air High School. This is what time the administration, teachers, students and other faculty in Bel Air High School would go by in the school building.

Before the change, the bell rang two minutes faster than what it was supposed to ring at. Homeroom actually would start at 7:25 a.m., instead of the time it was supposed to start, at 7:27 a.m. The first period bell would ring at 7:42 a.m., instead of the time it should have, at 7:44 a.m. This caused confusion throughout the day, especially for those relying on their IPhone, or cellphone time.

During the summer, a storm caused a power outage which messed up the clocks in the school. This initiated the idea of fixing the time to be synced to student’s phones. Changing the bell times has helped decrease the amount of late students in homeroom and classes.

Mr. Komondor, the BAHS principle says, “During the first week of school we were able to get the work order in and complete, and now everybody is back on the same time. This makes it fair for all of the students as well as the staff when we address students being on time or late to school.”

This 2014-2015 school year will now be more successful due to the new change. Hopefully this change eliminates any confusion, and lateness that occurred due to the different times. Have a good year Bobcats!
