Bel Air Track Takes on the Tigers

On March 29, 2017, The Bel Air Bobcats took on the Rising Sun Tigers and the Edgewood Rams in their first home meet of the season. The Bel Air Women’s Track Team took home first place with a score of 81 and the Men’s team took home second with a score of 73.

The standings in the Women’s division were Rising Sun taking third place with a score of 48.5, followed by Edgewood receiving second with a score of 56.5 and Bel Air’s Lady Cats blowing out the competition with a score of 81. The Men’s team coming in third were also the Rising Sun Tigers with a score of 30, coming in second were the Bel Air Bobcats with a score of 73 and the Edgewood Rams taking the win with a score of 83.

In the Women’s 100m, Moriah Greene took first place with a time of 13.37 followed by Kirsten Gary in second with a time of 13.73. In the Women’s 3200m, Lydia Cross took first place with a time of 13:10.24 followed by Maggie Bridges in second with a time of 13:35.98. Taking first place in the Women’s 100m hurdles and the 300m hurdles was Harley Wilson with a time of 17.80 (100m) and 48.63 (300m).

Coach David Huryk says, “We lost a lot of key athletes that were graduating seniors last year who held a high position on our team. I look forward to seeing who steps up to the plate and fills the shoes of those athletes and I can say that this first home meet set a good barometer for our season.”

In Men’s division, Ethan Gray took home first place on the 800m with a time of 2:17.75. On the 1600m, Bel Air’s Nick Hammond took home first place (4:55.41) followed by Caleb Zylka in second (5:09.29). In the 3200m, Bel Air took first, second, and third place with Kieran McDermott in first (10:09.16), Josh Murrell in second (11:13.15) and Cameron Sylvester in third (11:24.36).

Senior Ethan Gray comments, “This was a good opening to our season for both the boys’ and girls’ teams. We had many personal records come about and saw great improvement from many of our runners, especially rising lower classmen. I was happy to see our team work as a unit and I am very excited to see where our team goes this year, I see a lot of potential with the team this year.”
