Girls’ Basketball Grabs Two Wins

Katie McGrain

The Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team won two extremely important conference games last week against Fallston High School and Harford Technical High School. The Lady Bobcats dominated each game, nearly doubling both teams’ scores. They handled Fallston 61-36, and controlled the game against Harford Tech 42-22.

The Lady Bobcats beat Fallston just a short month ago by a tight score of 50-49. After playing a number of strong teams since then, the team was ready for the rematch and was determined to come out with another win against their cross-town rivals. The team has won four out of their last seven in-conference games, and beaten two strong out-of-conference teams as well. They are looking to keep the momentum moving forward heading into the quickly approaching post-season.

“I’m really proud of our team for getting the two strong wins last week,” says sophomore captain Grace Wehland. “We really have been working well together these past few weeks and it’s showing out on the court because we’re able to put up big numbers against really good teams.”

The Lady Cats also played Harford Tech earlier in the season. Much like the Fallston game, they won by a close score of 40-39. Coming from those two close games earlier in the season, and almost doubling the score against them last week, shows the hard work and determination of this young team to make a strong run in the playoffs.

“I think a lot of people have overlooked us this season and haven’t expected us to give them the strong games we’ve been giving them.” Wehland states. “I know that come post-season all of these strong wins are going to power us through the tough games and I think we’re going to make a great run for the state championship.”

The Lady Cats will close out the regular season against Francis Scott Key High School on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 6:45 p.m. at home. Come out and support the girls as the post-season is only one game away! Go Bobcats!
