On Monday, Jan. 30, the Boys’ Varsity Ice Hockey Team traveled to Bowie to face off against the Severna Park Falcons.

This game was a close battle in which each team exchanged goals back and forth throughout the whole game. In the first period, the Bobcats struck first with a goal from senior Jack Fitzgerald to put the Bobcats up 1-0.

Late in the first period, Severna Park responded with a goal to tie the game up at one. In the second period, the Bobcats slipped away again with the lead as freshman Deckland Dimitrev buried one in the back of the net. This time around though, it would not take the Falcons long to respond with a goal to tie the game back up at two.

“We have been struggling all year to keep leads and unfortunately, we struggled with it tonight as well.” Says junior Evan Bergquist.

In the third period, Severna Park snagged the lead for the first time in the game to put them up 3-2. With just seconds remaining, junior Tommy Card managed to put one in the back of the net to tie the game at three in what would be a heart-breaking tie for the Falcons.

“We never quit,” Bergquist states. “Even though Severna Park kept fighting back and even took the lead, we never gave up and it ended up paying off for us.”

The Bobcats look to pick up a win on senior night, and the final game of the season, as they host the South River Seahawks on Friday, Feb. 3.
