The Bel Air Girls’ Soccer Team have dominated their past three games against Aberdeen, C. Milton Wright, and Towson, crowning them Regional Champs and advancing them onto state semifinals.

On Tuesday, Nov. 1, the Lady Cats came out on top with a 5-0 win over Aberdeen, allowing them to continue onto sectional finals.

“The whole team played great, scoring five goals and the defense did an amazing job keeping the ball out of the back!” Says junior captain Carolyn Doheny.

Following this game, on Thursday, Nov. 3, the Bobcats dominated over rival C. Milton Wright with a 6-1 win, moving them up to the regional championship.

The game against C. Milton included two header goals from freshman Ava Goeller, and junior Julia Henry, two goals from junior Lexi Kraemer, and a goal from both Autumn Dougherty and Grace Wehland.

“Being brought up from JV, it felt like I was finally good enough to be on varsity and I felt almost as if I earned my spot on the team. Plus, it just felt so good to have scored in the big rival game.” Freshman Ava Goeller states.

Bel Air maintained possession throughout the game, only allowing their opponent to score a single time off a free kick.

“I was extremely excited when I scored off a header, but if it wasn’t for the help of my team, I wouldn’t have been able to do it.” Junior Julia Henry says. “Knowing we won against our biggest rival is a great feeling and created a great energy for us as we advanced onto the regional championship.”

Bel Air advanced onto the regional championship against Towson, coming out in the end with a 2-1 win and the title of Regional Champions.

“It was a solid win in an intense game, but Bel Air was able to match Towson’s intensity.” Assistant Coach Jason Brooks states. “I still believe, based on previous games such as the game against C. Milton, that we still have another level that we need to bring to the state semis.”

The first half ended scoreless, but Bel Air came out strong during the second half. Lexi Kraemer scored a goal six minutes into the half. Another goal was later scored by Sophomore Katie McGrain.

“The second goal boosted our confidence and calmed us down because we had more of a lead. It created a good momentum for the rest of the game.” McGrain says.

The Bel Air Girls’ Soccer Team played their semifinal match on Saturday, Nov. 12, with the time to be announced.
