Big Week for Girls’ Soccer

The girls’ soccer team had three big games last week against Leonardtown, Rising Sun, and Patterson Mill. A tough loss against Leonardtown on Wednesday night gave the Bobcats the boost they needed to beat Rising Sun the next day, followed by another win against Patterson Mill on the 200th Anniversary of Bel Air High School.
On Oct. 5, the Bobcats took on visiting Leonardtown High School. Unfortunately lost to Leonardtown 2-1 in overtime.
The opposing team struck first, scoring a goal within the first ten minutes. Junior forward Lexi Kraemer responded with a goal a few plays later and the game was knotted at 1-1. The score stood as such for the rest of the game and the players were forced into overtime. With about nine minutes remaining in the first overtime period, Leonardtown scored off a free kick, and the game was over.
“It was great to tie the game, but it’s really unfortunate that we couldn’t come out with the win.” Kraemer said. “It stinks that we lost, but it really gave us the push to work hard and win the two games we had left that week.”
The following day, the Bobcats traveled to Rising Sun High School for another very physical game. This time, however, the Bobcats dominated in every aspect of the field, taking down the Tigers 3-0. Junior forward McKenzie Wallace scored two of the three goals, and sophomore defender Lexi Roloson scored the third and final goal to finish the game.
“I was very excited when I got my first goal of the season and the first goal of the game.” Wallace said. “After scoring the second goal, the team became more confident because we were up by two, and that confidence helped us continue to dominate and win 3-0!”
Oct. 8 was a special day for Bel Air High School, as it was the weekend celebration of its 200th year. To kick-off the athletic festivities, the Bobcats took on cross-town rival Patterson Mill High School. The game was tight within the first half, and was tied at halftime 0-0. The Bobcats came out strong in the second half, and sophomore defender Grace Wehland opened up the scoring within the first few minutes. The Huskies responded off of a free kick, and the game was tied again. Sophomore defender Lexi Roloson scored off of a corner kick, and sophomore forward Autumn Dougherty added a third and final goal to finish off the game. The Bobcats won 3-1, and stayed undefeated in UCBAC play.
“It was amazing to score my first goal of the season and it was so sweet that it happened against P-Mill.” Wehland said. “I have a lot of friends on that team and beating them, and staying undefeated in the UCBAC, is awesome.”
This week the Bobcats will travel to C. Milton Wright High School for another tough match in UCBAC play on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 6:45 p.m. Go Bobcats!
