On Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, our Varsity Lady Bobcats traveled to the Ridley Athletic Complex on Loyola University’s campus to play Linganore High School. The Bobcats won in double overtime and penalty kicks with a score of 3-0, securing their title as 2015 State Champions.

The girls took the field and played two strong halves, keeping the score at 0-0. Starting senior keeper Andrea Sipos played in the goal making two solid saves over the course of the night. The Bobcats and Lancers entered two five minute overtimes and the score remained 0-0.

With the score still set at 0-0, both teams chose their girls to take the penalty kicks. Sophomore Carolyn Doheny, Senior Jamie Layfield and Senior Gabby Encarnacion all buried their penalty kicks, earning Bel Air three goals. Senior Goalie Andrea Sipos remained strong in goal despite a broken thumb and injured shoulder, defending their lead.

“The girls executed the game plan very well. The energy was amazing, especially at the end of the game, our confidence levels were high. The girls just needed to go out and remember to play their game and have fun. They worked hard all season and it really payed off,” Commented Head Coach Clemmer on the Championship game.

The Bel Air Bobcats finished up the 2015 season with 19-0 record and their first state title. We hope to see just as many supporters in the stands next season. Congratulations Bobcats!
