Boys’ Lacrosse Ends Season Against Franklin

Matt Robertson

On Friday May 8, the Bel Air Boys’ Lacrosse team ended their season with a close loss to the Franklin Indians. Travelling down to Franklin High School for the second round of the playoffs the boys lost 11-8, finishing their season with a record of 10-5.

Following a blowout against Parkville (28-0) the ‘Cats went into the Franklin game with a sense of determination. From the opening whistle the game was back and forth. A Franklin midfielder picked up a ground ball, but Bel Air got it back before he could get it into the box. After couple of good offensive sets, and defensive stands, the scoring began. Franklin put in the first goal, but it was matched quickly by senior attackmen Tom Pfieffer. Pfieffer soon caught fire scoring the Bobcats first four goals. The Indians remained in the lead though until halftime, leading the Bobcats by a narrow margin.

The second half started in Bel Air’s favor with senior Anthony Sampayo winning back to back face-offs that led to two goals from the Bobcat offense. Bel Air pulled back within one goals of Franklin, but after a few penalties, Franklin’s extra-man offense capitalized and pulled away again. A sense of urgency was put into the Bobcat offense, but they could just not find the back of the net. In the end, the Franklin defense held strong, and halted the Bel Air comeback. The Bobcats fell 11-8 to the Franklin Indians.

“It was a tough loss,” said Senior Dan Hopkins. “We had high hopes for the year, but Franklin was a good team. I’m going to really miss stepping out onto the field with all those guys, and I wish them the best of luck next year.”

To the Bel Air Lacrosse team, I would personally like to say thank you. Thank you for making it a memorable four years, and for giving it 100% every time you all took the field. It has been amazing to watch what you have all accomplished through such adversity, and I have a deep respect for you all. Good luck in your future lacrosse careers, and good luck to the team next year. Thank you.
