Girls’ Lax Goes 1-1 in Friendship Tournament

On Saturday, April 11, the BAHS Girls’ Lacrosse team played in the Friendship Tournament at Mount de Sales Academy.

The ‘Cats first faced Mount de Sales. The Sailors scored four quick goals. The ‘Cats were able to recover from the brief lead with four goal from Junior Bekah Riley, Sophomore Anna Farley, Sophomore Lexi Strobel and Freshman Julia Henry. The Sailors scored two more goals, followed by a Bel Air goal from Sophomore Kami Holt. The Sailors scored another quick goal, again followed by a Bobcat goal from Senior Sam Keesey. With little time left in the half, the Sailors were able to score another fast goal.

With a halftime score of 6-8 Mount de Sales, the ‘Cats were hungry to make a comeback. Bel Air dominated the half with great defense and saves from Junior Goalie Sydney Matthews. Two goals from Sophomore Anna Farley and Freshman Julia Henry were scored, tying the score at 8-8. Time on the clock ran out and the game went to overtime.

Overtime in this game was a ten minute sudden-death period. The Sailors won the draw and sprinted down the field to try to score. The ‘Cats defense made some awesome plays and Matthews had a save. The Bobcats got the ball and shot off the fast break. The Sailors’ goalie saved it.  She made the clear and Mount de Sales had the ball again. After two saves from Matthews, the Sailors scored and the game was over. The ‘Cats put up a good fight and were ready to come out strong in their next game of the tournament against Patterson Mill.

Senior Katy Higinbothom said, “I think we played really well, but I think we could have definitely won. We’ll get them next year.”

The Patterson Mill Huskies came out strong and scored a quick goal against the ‘Cats, who quickly scored three goals after from Senior Shannon Williams, Junior Bekah Riley and Sophomore Anna Farley. The Huskies scored two more goals, then the ‘Cats scored ten goals after. Four from Williams, one from Keesey, one from Junior Emily McQuay, two from Strobel, one from Holt and one from Henry. The score at halftime was 13-3 Bobcats.

During the second half, the ‘Cats practiced running their different motions and McQuay and Henry scored two goals. The game ended with a score of 15-3 Bobcats.

Sophomore Anna Farley said, “I think overall, our team played well and it was good to have the opportunity to work on our plays in a game-like situation.”
