On Friday, March 27, Bel Air Boys’ Lacrosse played Archbishop Curley following a win against Archbishop Spalding last Tuesday. The ‘Cats won handily, 18-4.

Riding the strong victory against Spalding the team came hot out of the gate. Senior Brad Casale scored a quick goal to start off, followed by goals from Seniors Jason Dinsmore and David Lotz, and Junior Justin Calabreese. Curley answered the 4-0 run while man-up with a goal, but after that Bel Air dominated. The ‘Cats went on a 7-0 run, with two more of those goals coming from Lotz, and two coming from Senior Captain Tom Pfieffer. Bel Air played strong defense during the run, killing off multiple man-ups for Curley. At the end of the first half the Bobcats lead 11-1.

“We knew what we had to do to win,” said Senior Dan Hopkins. “So many players really stepped it up on offense and defense, but it was our ability to control possession on the face-off that really put us in the position to win.”

It was Senior Anthony Sampayo that allowed Bel Air to control the game at the face-off. Out of the 14 face-offs he took, he only lost two.

The second half faired much like the first. Pfieffer put on past the Curley keeper to extend the lead, scoring his fifth goal in just two games. The game was completely controlled by the ‘Cats for the remainder of the half. Curley scored 3 more goals, while Bel Air put 6 more in.

“It was an all-around great team win with every player giving it all the head,” said Senior Anthony Sampayo. “We still have a lot to improve on though, but we showed we have a lot of potential for this season to accomplish our goals.”

Bel Air plays their next game at home Wednesday night, April 1, against the Fallston Cougars.
