On Wed. Feb. 11, 2015, the wrestling team travelled to Old Mill High School to compete in the 3A/4A Regional Dual tournament.

The Bobcats took on the South River Eagles in the first round of the tournament and came out with a 38-30 win over South River. The team started off strong when Junior Cody Seibel pinned his opponent then Senior Captain David Reagan added three points to the team score. South River then won one of their own and the ‘Cats answered with two wins in a row. Senior Dalton Foster pulled off a 4-2 win in overtime of his match and Captain Brady Stafford followed Foster’s win with a pin of his own. After the Stafford pin, South River avenged their team with one of their own until the Bobcats went on a four win streak.

“We had a tough match against South River but we worked our hardest and got the win,” stated Senior Dalton Foster. “Our second match unfortunately, we didn’t win, but I can definitely see us winning counties.”

Seniors Micah Hunter-Goskie and Captain Cameron Watts received the win streak start by pinning their opponents in the opening seconds of their matches to add a total of 12 team points to the score. Sophomores Scott Miser and Sam Queen both won by a major decision to add four points each to the team score, making it 38-6. The ‘Cats then strategically forfeited the last four matches making the final score 38-30. With the win over the Eagles, the Bobcats moved on to the final round and would take on the Old Mill Patriots.

“We wrestled really well, we made a couple mistakes but in both matches everyone worked really hard but it just wasn’t enough to beat Old Mill,” said Sophomore Scott Miser.

Unfortunately the Bobcats could not pull off the win against Old Mill in the finals, meaning they did not advance to the state tournament taking place on Sat. Feb. 14. The ‘Cats move forward in the post-season as they compete in the UCBAC tournament that is coming up next week on Feb. 20 and Feb. 21, 2015 at Aberdeen High School.
