Rebounds, Hustle and Layups Win Games for Lady ‘Cats Basketball

On Thursday, Jan. 22, the Lady Bobcats defeated the Fallston Cougars on their court with a final score of 30-26. The game was extremely close throughout all four quarters. On Wednesday, February 4, the Lady Cats’ defeated the North Harford Hawks with a final score 48-44. The Girls’ Varsity Basketball team now has a record of 6-9 with much motivation as the second round of games has started and play offs are even closer.

When the Lady ‘Cats went to Fallston they knew that this would be a big game and the potential of this victory could be the start of a winning streak. On the offensive side, everyone on the team was lighting up the boards contributing to a close score the whole game. With baskets all around the paint, Rebekah Riley, Anna Wehland, Catia Johnson, Julie Bernoski, Renie Tsomos, and Mariah Thomas, all contributed. Rebounds were key that night, Catia Johnson and Natalie Neff both respectively had many offensive and defensive rebounds.

“Beating Fallston in their gym is always a good feeling. The games against them are always so close, but they bring out the best talent in us, I’m really looking forward when they come to our gym for senior night.” Senior Captain Renie Tsomos.

Defeating the Hawks on Wednesday night was a needed win for the Lady Bobcats. At half time the score was 21-25. The victory was pulled off with key defensive plays made by Catia Johnson, Natalie Neff, Rebekah Riley and Bethany Ingram. Also, contributing key plays on offense was Renie Tsomos, Julie Bernoski and OC Murphy. With a final score of 48-44 the Cats’ pulled off a good team win.

“This year we tip our hats to the hard work, hustle and defense we play on the court. We play lock down defense against teams. We are still struggling to put together four offensive quarters, but every game we get better and better; no matter how many times we get knocked down.” Head coach Mr. Skelton.

The next game for the Varsity Girls’ Basketball team is Thursday, Feb. 5 at Edgewood High school. The game against the Rams begins at 6:45 p.m.
