On Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, the Field Hockey team hosted the Generals of Towson High School in the 3A North Regional Championship game.

The game started when the Generals made their way down the field, but a series of turnovers allowed the Bobcats to get the ball into the offensive zone where a penalty corner was called in favor of the Bobcats. However, they were unable to capitalize. The ‘Cats worked together to get the ball back while the Generals were still in their defensive zone. The ‘Cats successfully denied the Generals the opportunity to transition the ball causing Sophomore Anna Farley to take a shot on cage that hit off the post but rebounded right into the goal. The Farley goal was the only tally marked in the game. The Generals pushed the speed and came down the field, but again the standout Bobcat defense denied them the opportunity to score. Time ticked down and the score remained the same going into half time, 1-0.

“We came out really fast and kept that pace throughout the game. If we keep it up and play like this next week, we can go to states. This is the year to do it!” stated Sophomore Anna Farley

Starting the second half, the Bobcats started with possession and pushed the momentum forward toward the goal cage. The Generals denied the Bobcats a chance and came down the field to test Senior Captain and goalkeeper Morgan Domanico with a series of shots on cage, but eventually the defense cleared the ball up the field. The second half was full of back and forth action and a lot of changes in possession. The time ticked away and when the buzzer rang, the Bobcats celebrated the tough 1-0 win over the Generals, not only to continue their season and advance to the State Semi-Final game, but win the 3A North Regional Championship game—the first Regional Championship win for the field hockey team in 20 years.

“We had an awesome game, and as a team this is an incredible experience for us,” stated Captain Morgan Domanico. “Even so, we want to keep our momentum going forward.”

The Bobcat defense has been working very well together holding the last four teams to zero goals. Domanico tallied 5 huge saves in the cage for the Bobcats in their win against the Generals. The offensive unit has tallied close to 15 goals in the past four games.

The Bobcats move to 11-4 on the season and advance to the 3A North State Semi-Final game at Broadneck High School on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m.
