On Monday, Oct. 27, the Bel Air Golf team traveled to College Park to participate in the qualifying day for the State Golf Tournament.

The golf team shot a respectable 336 which got them into 12th out of 22 teams, but failed to qualify them for a return trip to College Park. The top 8 qualified and will return on Oct. 29 to crown a champion.

Bel Air did qualify two individuals to return to the second day of the tournament.  Seniors Tyler Newton and Cody Smith both made the cut by shooting 83 and 79 respectively. Smith’s 79 was the best score for Harford County competitors, but both athletes faced a difficult challenge in catching the leader, Graham Hutchinson, from Walt Whitman High School, who shot an outstanding, 3 under par, 69.

The golf team’s successful season has come to a close with two of its individuals are still pushing for their titles as the best in Maryland.
