On Monday, Oct. 13, the Boys’ Varsity Bel Air Soccer team traveled to Howard County to face the Howard Lions in an important matchup for a possible first round bye for the Bobcats.

With great chemistry in the first half, Bel Air was able to go ahead early after an incredibly well placed far post shot by Zachary Memmo with the assist from Dan Milad. With overall solid defense by the Bobcats in the first half, they were able to go into half with the lead at 1-0. That wouldn’t last forever; as soon the second half began, Howard was able to knock in an equalizer putting pressure on the Bobcats after a turn in momentum.

The scored tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation. Playing in a heavy fog affected the team’s chemistry as they headed into overtime. After a controversial yellow card on Bel Air keeper Garret Lorenz, Zachary Memmo was forced to go into goal and defend the Bobcats hopes of winning. Four minutes remaining the Bobcats defense was on edge, but a great cross by Howard led to the final goal off a header sealing the Lions’ victory.
