On Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, the field hockey team suffered their first loss to the Garrison Forest Grizzle Bears with a score of 5-1.

`The Grizzly’s got on the board first within the first ten minutes of the game, but the Bobcats pushed the tempo of the game and took the ball into the Grizzly’s defensive zone. They tried for a couple corners but unfortunately the Lady ‘Cats could not put the ball in the back of the cage. Garrison Forest then came down the field and scored their second goal off of a corner awarded to them to make the score 2-0. The score of 2-0 remained the same going into half time.

“I think we are at a point where the team is very strong physically, but now we have to work on mental toughness,” stated Senior Captain Morgan Domanico.  “We work together very well on the field; we had a couple breakdowns, but it’s nothing we can’t fix in practice.”

Starting the second half, the Grizzly’s started with possession of the ball. After a few exchanges in possession from both teams, the Grizzly’s came down into the Bobcat defensive zone eventually scored off of another penalty corner to go up 3-0. The Bobcats did not back down when defense made a huge stop. They started transition up the field to eventually get a penalty corner. Sophomore Anna Farley received the ball from the inserter and dribble it into the circle to get a better view of the cage. She tallied the lone goal for the Bobcats making the score 3-1. The Grizzly’s then answered the Farley goal with two of their own in the last couple minutes of play.

“I think we played well as a team. We started off really strong and really made Garrison Forest work for each of their goals in the first half,” stated Senior Captain Judy Yurkofsky. “Yes, Garrison Forest came out on top with a win, and yes, we did make mistakes, but this was a game to learn from our mistakes. Moving forward, we know what we need to work on and how we can fix it because this loss does not define us. We are ready to show what we are capable of and what we can bring to the table.”

The Bobcats lost their first game of the season and moved to a 4-1 record.
