On Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, the Field Hockey team traveled to Perryville High School to take on the Panthers, defeating them with a score of 5-0.

The game started off with a lot of back and forth action between the two teams, but Senior Lauren Fisher would get the scoring started for the ‘Cats by tapping the ball into the back of the cage. The Bobcat defense would be challenged a couple of times, but Seniors Olivia Street and Hailey Meyer were unstoppable in the back field for the Bobcat defense, and held the Panthers to only 2 shots on cage. After Senior Goalkeeper Morgan Domanico was challenged a few times, the defense started the transition to the goal and Junior Mimi Salters was there at the door step to bury her shot into the back of the goal, making the score 2-0. The Panthers then called a time out.

After the Panther timeout, Senior Katie Bowling tallied another goal for the Bobcats by sneaking the ball past the Panther goalkeeper on a penalty corner. The Bobcat defense came up with another huge stop and got the transition going. The Bobcat forwards then caused a penalty corner. Senior Olivia Auer had an amazing shot that went into the top corner of the goal to count for the fourth Bobcat goal. The goal extended the Bobcat lead to 4-0, and the score remained the same going into half time.

“I think we played really well. We were able to rotate everyone in and still get the win on grass,” stated Senior Captain Judy Yurkofsky. “We are going to continue to get stronger and faster as we start conference games. It was a big step in the right direction after our devastating loss to Garrison Forest. This shows that we are playing our game and have a lot to show other teams.”

Coming out of the half, the Bobcats and Panthers traded various possessions of the ball and each team traded a couple of penalty corners, but the strong Bobcat defense did not allow the Panther offense to score. Sophomore Anna Farley would score a beautiful goal for the Bobcats when she reverse chipped the ball that went right over the goalies head to count for the fifth and last Bobcat goal of the game. The defense stepped up, only allowing the Panthers to get five shots on cage. In the first half, Domanico was solid in the cage with two saves and Junior Kelbey Egarland with three saves in the second half for the ‘Cats.

The Bobcats move to 5-1 on the season and will face North East at Bobcat Stadium on Tuesday Sept. 23, 2014, at 3:30 p.m.
