The Bel Air Field Hockey Team started their three game home stand on Monday, Sept. 8 with a 4-2 win over the visiting Perry Hall Gators.

The game started with a lot of back and forth action on both the defensive and offensive ends of the field. Senior Sam Keesey scored the first goal of the game at the 20 minute mark to start the scoring for the Bobcats. Another corner was caused by the Bobcats which they were successfully able to capitalize. Senior Captain Judy Yurkofsky drove the ball in from the top of the circle where the goalie saved, but Senior Lauren Fisher was nearby on the door step to tap the ball into the goal. The Bobcats establishing a score of 2-0 caused the Gators to call a timeout. After the timeout, the Bobcats got the ball back and scored at the 9 minute mark coming from a beautiful sweep from Junior Mimi Salters. The Gators came back to score their first goal of the game to make the score 3-1 going into the half.

Coming out of half time, Junior Mimi Salters scored the first goal of the game to bring the Bobcats up 4-1. The rest of the half consisted of a lot of back and forth action. The Gators then tallied the last goal of the game. The Bobcat defense came up huge throughout the game with Senior Goalkeeper Morgan Domanico’s 7 saves.

The Bobcats then took on the Centennial Eagles on Wednesday, Sept. 10 when they would achieve victory with a 3-1 win. The Eagles came out strong by scoring the very first goal of the game. The Bobcats then answered with one of their own when Senior Caroyln Todd tallied her first goal of the game to tie it up 1-1. After many exchanges in possession, Senior Captain Judy Yurkofsky assisted Junior Mimi Salters for the Bobcats’ second goal of the game, ending the scoring for the first half.

The second half was full of intense back and forth action and some nail biting moments in the Bobcat defensive end, but Sophomore Anna Farley came in and scored off of Salters’s assist to score the very last tally for the Bobcats, making the final score 3-1. Once again, the Bobcat defense had a strong showing in the back with Captain Goalkeeper Morgan Domanico’s four saves and Senior Hailey Meyer’s many critical defensive stops to help push the tempo into the offensive zone.

To end the three game week, the Bobcats took on the Easton Warriors and fought hard to successfully establish a score of, 4-0. The first ten minutes of the game had a lot of back and forth action between the two teams, but Sophomore Anna Farley scored the first goal of the game when she was awarded a stroke at the 14 minute mark. Senior Lauren Fisher would tally the Bobcats second goal at the 8 minute mark to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead and the score would remain the same going into the half.  Captain Morgan Domanico tallied five saves in the first half and Senior Olivia Street stepped up in the back field to help clear the ball and start transition into the offensive zone.

After half time, the Bobcats wasted no time getting on the board for the third time with a goal from Junior Emma Chmielewski, assisted by Senior Captain Judy Yurkofsky. The Warrior offense then came down into the defensive zone and achieved a corner. Luckily the defense came big with a series of stops and cleared the ball out the get the transition started. Farley strikeed for the second time to extend the lead to 4-0 at the 21 minute mark, ending the scoring for the rest of the game. The Bobcats would then take the 4-0 victory over the Warriors.

“This set of girls is not ceasing to amaze me,” stated Coach Zorbach. “Every game we play, every practice we have they seem to take it up a notch and I’m impressed with how much they have learned and how much they’ve come together as a team. They are definitely not a force to be reckoned with.”

The Lady Bobcats move to a 4-0 record and move forward into their season when they travel to Garrsion Forest School on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
