The Science Honor Society is a nationwide organization that helps students get involved in the science community and encourages students to participate in volunteer work that will benefit local organizations and individuals.

Josh Clemmer, teacher-sponsor of the developing organization, goes into further detail regarding the specifics, “The purpose of this organization shall be to encourage participation in and recognition of scientific and intellectual thought, to advance the students’ knowledge of classical and modern science, to communicate with the scientific community, to aid the civic community with its comprehension of science, and to encourage students to participate in community service and, in turn, encourage a dedication to the pursuit of scientific knowledge that benefits all mankind.”

Two students from Bel Air High School, Sara Tivvis and Jenna Signorelli, approached the science department wanting to start up a branch of the Science Honor Society here our school.

“The Science Honor Society is a nationwide organization; Jenna and I wanted to start it here at Bel Air because science is our favorite subject. We wanted to help other students get involved in community service as well as an after school club. We look forward to seeing how it turns out.” says Tivvis.

The teachers running the Science Honor Society have meetings monthly. Depending on the different comities that you are involved in there may be more than one meeting per month.
