Starting in January of 2015, the Harford County Department of Emergency Services will be offering a four-week program about emergency preparedness and safety that will teach multiple safety practices including CPR and crime prevention techniques.

The program is a four-week long initiative starting on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at the Harford County Department of Emergency Services in Forest Hill. The sessions are two hours long and they all begin at 7:00 p.m. and end at 9:00 p.m.

If you are interested in participating in this program, you must be at least 16 years of age or older. At the end of the program, the Department of Emergency Services will issue a certificate of training to those who complete all four sessions of the program.

Harford County Emergency Manager Rick Ayers stated, “This new program is designed for those who have limited knowledge regarding the various topics.”

The program will include topics such as “Emergency Management and Preparedness”, “Fire safety and Fire Extinguisher Use”, “Crime Prevention and Awareness”, and “CPR/First Aid”. Also, the Harford County Sherriff’s Office and Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association will be attending the four-week long program.

Rick Ayers also stated, “The course will be exciting and interactive and will help citizens to become better prepared to handle emergencies and survive the first 72 hours following a disaster.”

Overall, this should not only be an educational experience, but and enjoyable one as well. In order to register for the course you may visit their website at www.harfordpublicsafety.org.
