Bel Air Works to Make Every Thanksgiving a Happy Thanksgiving

On Friday, Nov. 21, the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive will come to an end, and all donated boxed and canned goods from Bel Air High School will be taken to St. Margaret’s Church in Bel Air after being dispersed into Thanksgiving meals for less fortunate families in our community.

Bel Air High school has been carrying out the Thanksgiving Food Drive since 2010 and has continued to work closely with the Mason-Dixon Community Services and St. Margaret’s Church to do so. The Mason-Dixon Community Services Organization has been around for almost 30 years with a goal to provide emergency energy and food assistance to low-income families in both York and Harford County.

Donated goods will be separated and made into meals on Sunday, Nov. 23 in the cafeteria at Bel Air High School and then brought to St. Margaret’s Church to be sent out to the families. Corn, green beans, cake mix, and macaroni and cheese are all some of the items being brought in by students. Teachers have been donating frozen turkeys as well.

Since last week, each homeroom has been assigned a specific canned or boxed food item to donate by Friday. Homeroom teachers have been reminding students to bring in their items daily in order to meet BAHS goal. Bel Air High School fed 70 total families last year with the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive and hopes to feed even more this year by meeting the goal of 3000 items.

“Every single person has things going on in their life, whether it is bad or good. The fact that the students of Bel Air High School are always able to think of others, especially in this Thanksgiving Food Drive, really makes it special,” says Mr. Komondor, BAHS Principal.

Please help out the Bel Air community and bring in the specific item assigned to your homeroom. The main office is also accepting donations from parents if brought in before noon on Friday, Nov. 21. If you are a student that does not have a homeroom assigned an item, you can bring in a canned or boxed good to room C213, or the main office. Help to make this a happy Thanksgiving for all those in the Bel Air community by donating to the less fortunate.
