Do you love the Super Smash Bros. series, or are you interested in it, but never had a chance to play? Have no one to play it with? Well, some BAHS students have the perfect opportunity for you: Smash Club.

Smash Club is an after school club that’s all about the Super Smash Bros. games, whether they’re being played, talked about, or learned from. The club is run by best friends Brian Keh and Brandon Harper, whose love for the Super Smash Bros. games inspired them to start the club.

A typical meeting of Smash Club consists of a casual tournament for one of the entries in the Super Smash Bros. series (64, Melee, Brawl, Project M, and eventually Smash 4 for the 3DS and WiiU systems). However, there are plans for Smash Club to become something more.

“We are planning to host pay-to-enter tournaments at Collector’s Corner. The winners of these tournaments will win a prize, such as a trophy or a T-shirt. Also, there’s a possibility that we will create a small team of our most skilled club members to take to competitive Smash Bros. events outside of Smash Club. Of course, we’ll need permission for that, first,” said Brandon Harper, Vice President of Smash Club.

The club is large, consisting of around 40 club members, and of those club members, about 30 to 35 of them participate in the casual tournaments. This is a lot more than Brian and Brandon expected, originally expecting around 15 people to attend. Despite how unexpectedly large the club has become, it hasn’t negatively affected how the club has been functioning, as every club member has gotten an equal opportunity to play.

“We were very surprised at the amount and variety of people who took an interest in Smash Club, because we expected so much less. I think the video we put on the Cat’s Eye really helped make this happen,” said Brian Keh, President of Smash Club.

The next Smash Club meeting is next Thursday, Oct. 9, in room B303. Be there, and happy Smashing!
