Looking for a new show to watch? Why not try this highly anticipated historical drama Scarlet Heart: Ryeo.

Ji Eun Lee plays a twenty-first-century woman, Ha-Jin Ko, who suddenly travels back in time to tenth-century Korea, during the Goryeo Dynasty. Ko finds herself stuck in a sixteen-year-old girl’s body named Hae Soo, who is staying near the royal palace as a companion of her cousin, Lady Hae (played by Park Si-Eun). As she adjusts to this different time period and way of life, she meets the princes of Goryeo, and plays a part in influencing the relationship between the two fighting for the throne.

Joon-Ki Lee plays Hae Soo’s main love interest, Wang So, the fourth prince, who is able to kill his enemies, and anyone who sees the scar under his left eye, mercilessly and without hesitation. His maimed face makes him the black sheep of the royal family, as beauty is associated with one’s status during this time period. Throughout his struggle to maintain a place in the royal palace, he meets Hae Soo, who acknowledges his underlying hardships.

“I was overjoyed when I heard Joon-Ki Lee was going to be in Scarlet Heart: Ryeo!” Says Erika Gonzales, a fan of Joon-Ki Lee. “His acting skills are simply over the top with the way he vividly expresses his emotions. The character Wang So harbors a lot of trauma and hate within himself, so I’m expecting Joon-Ki to accurately portray those characteristics to the audience.”

Ha-neul Kang plays the second male lead, the eighth prince, Wang Wook, an intelligent and kind-hearted prince that looks after his people, especially Hae Soo. Hae Soo’s cousin is the eighth prince’s wife, however this doesn’t stop the attraction between Soo and Wook. As the drama progresses, their relationship is tested as Hae Soo uncovers the truth behind the eighth prince’s ambitions, and his plans for her and the throne.

“I don’t think he’s a suitable partner for the female lead. He’s very charismatic, but I would rather see her with the fourth prince instead.” States Joye Tilly, a fan of the drama.
