Auditions for the Bel Air Drama Company’s spring musical, Mary Poppins, were held on Monday, Feb. 2 and Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015.

The sign-ups list were posted last week on the call board by the Black Box Theater, and within a few days, all the slots had been filled.

Those auditioning were required to prepare and memorize a monologue, song and a joke. For their audition, they performed these in front of the directors, Mr. Smith, Mr. Bowden, and Ms. Mathews. Based upon their performance, those who auditioned would be considered for a role in the musical.

“My biggest fear is going into my audition, thinking I did great, and then getting ensemble,” said Vittoria Wills, a sophomore who has been with the company since the beginning of her freshman year.

Many of those auditioning are new faces to the stage, but many students are returning to the drama company this spring.

“I’m auditioning because I love drama and Mary Poppins is one of my favorite musicals,” said Junior Devin Hott.

Auditions are not-so-secretly stressful and a lot of pressure is placed upon those auditioning. However, some people still find things to be enjoyed around audition time.

“Hearing all the diverse jokes are always fun,” said Senior Katie Allison.
